Terriers Wrestle To 27-10 Conference Victory Over Drexel
 
BOSTON - Boston University defeated Drexel University, 27-10, in Colonial Athletic Association wrestling action at Case Gym on Friday, Jan. 30.  The Terriers won the first five matches of the competition and held off a late Drexel charge for their eighth straight dual-meet victory.
 
The Terriers improve to 11-2, 7-1 CAA, while Drexel falls to 7-9, 5-3.
 
B. U. got off to the fast start, as sophomore Mike Galorenzo (Oradell, N. J.) defeated Drexel's Joe Cristaldi, 9-3, at 125 pounds.  Junior Joey Rivera (Stroudsburg, Pa.) made it 6-0 with a 9-6 win over Chris Renniger at 141 pounds.
 
Junior Rayes Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.) won a crucial match at 149 pounds, defeating Mark Cartella in a tight 3-2 match to put the Terriers up, 9-0, after three matches.
 
The Terriers took control of the match at 157 pounds, as sophomore Zach Johns (Owings Mills, Md.) won by technical fall over Ray Lamb to make the score 15-0.  The Terriers added six points with a win by forfeit at 165 pounds.
 
Drexel won the next three matches, to climb back into contention, as Nick Kozar (174), Josh Fisk (184), and Chris Jones (197), each recorded wins to cut the B. U. lead to 21-10 with two matches remaining.
 
The Terriers secured the win when junior Courtney Howard (Sitka, Alaska) scored one point with an escape midway through the third period and held on for a 3-2 win over the Dragons' Chris Cowen at 285 pounds to make the score 24-10 with only the 125-pound match left on the docket.
 
B. U. freshman Brett Frimer (Marlboro, N. J.) wrapped up the win with a 7-3 victory over Paul Slifer at 125 pounds.
 
B. U. hosts Rutgers University on Saturday, Jan. 31.  The match starts at 4 p.m. at the Terriers' Case Gym.

B.U. Wrestlers Extend Win Streak To Nine Matches With Win Over Rutgers
 
BOSTON - The Boston University wrestling team earned its ninth dual-meet victory in a row, downing Rutgers University, 18-13, at Case Gym on Saturday, Jan. 31.  The Terriers won the first three matches and held off a late charge by the Scarlet Knights to earn the non-conference win.
 
The Terriers improved to 12-2, while Rutgers dropped to 5-4.  It was the second win for B. U. in two days.  The Terries earned a 27-10 home victory over Drexel University on Friday.
 
As they did in the Drexel win, the Terriers came out strong, earning wins in their first three matches.  Junior Rayes Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.) started the meet with a victory at 149 pounds, followed by sophomore Zach Johns' (Owings Mills, Md.) win at 157 pounds.  Senior Leighton Brady (Tulsa, Okla.) made it three in a row for B. U. with a win at 165 pounds to make the score 9-0 in favor of the Terriers.
 
Rutgers got on the scoreboard at 174 pounds as Andy Roy defeated junior Warren Haines (Alexandria, Va.), 9-1, to earn four points.  Terrier sophomore Tom Sforza (Lindenhurst, N. Y.) at 184 pounds and freshman John DaCruz (Ludlow, Mass.) at 197 pounds earned crucial victories for B. U., extending the lead to 15-4 and keeping the Scarlet Knights from establishing further momentum.
 
Rutgers' heavyweight Ramel Meekins kept the visitors in the race with a tight 6-5 win over Courtney Howard (Sitka, Alaska).  With the match tied at 5-5 late in the third period, Meekins scored with an escape with only two seconds remaining.
 
Freshman Brett Frimer's (Marlboro, N. J.) 9-8 victory over Dan Hilt at 125 pounds made the score 18-7 with two matches to go.
 
Rutgers would win both of those matches, a 7-6 win by 133-pounder Dare Ajibade over sophomore Mike Galorenzo (Oradell, N. J.) and a 6-1 triple overtime win by Donnie DeFilippis over Terrier junior Joey Rivera (Las Vegas, Nev.) at 141 pounds.  The Terriers early lead proved to be insurmountable, however
