Michigan-Japan. The Michigan-Japan Cultural Exchange was a huge success in participation, educational benifit, finances, and fun. The AAU and Michigan Wrestling Coaches Association are hassling over contractual arrangements but Michigan Pursue their principles and resolve the dispute. Pictured is Jerrry Kropf, Lowell, attempting to break a crossbody ride his Japanese opponent is applying to him. This Grand Rapids Area meet was held at Grand Valley State College. The Michigan Cultural Exchange Tryouts and Finals were held on 11 May at MSU IM Sports Arena, East Lansing.

Ohio, Sam Komar, West Geauga High School, Chesterland, Ohio, Coach Woody Bliss, Attempts to turn his opponent in driving for his pin in the 132 pound class at the semifinals of the 1974 Ohio State Tournament. Sam got pins in the Semis and Finals to win the title and post a 27-0 season record.

NCAA University Championships, Ames, Iowa-- Jeff Callard, Oklahoma's 167 pounder (facing camera), is countering an attempted takedown by Doug Wyn of Western Michigan. Jeff lost 5-2 in a match that would have wreapped up Oklahoma's team title. That loss left everything up to the Ernst-Wood heavy weight match. Doug Wyn won the NCAA title. The official in the cover photo is Bob Siddens, head wrestling coach of West Waterloo High, Waterloo, Iowa. West Waterloo is consistently one of teh top high school wrestling teams in the state. Note the top six placers in the NCAA and you will always find one or more national placers from West Waterloo high School. Siddens is Dan Gable's high School Coach.

1973 Michigan C-D championships, Carey Weaver (all dark uniform) of Perry on his way to success in the 167 pound semifinals against Lloyd Cogswell of Ravenna. Weaver later took the class title and in the process locked up the team championship for Perry, a school in only its fourth year of wrestling.

Madison Township High School's Tom Jacoutot (left), Works hard to escape grasp of Mooretown's James Hodgson in 115- pound action of the 1973 N.J. State Wreslting championships. Jacoutot won 9-1 and went on to capture third place. In doingso he became the most successful wreslter in Madison Township's eleven year history, finishing with an overall varsity record of 78 wins, 14 losses, and 1 tie. Wrestling continues to grow at terrific rate in New Jersey as 9,000 people attend then final round of the State Tournament in Princeton University's ultra-modern Jadwin Gym.

Canada's Dellaguilo gets an upside down looka t things as Unites States' Don Behm has the situation well in hand at this stage. The World Cups ere held in Toledo, Ohio. The U.S.A. was second behind the U.S.S.R., Japan was third and Canada fourth. The only Yanks to break the Soviet run toward a team title were Lloyd Keser at 149 pounds and John peterson at 180.
